Nuevas variedades de Salvia

One of the facets that characterizes Vivers Sala Graupera is the search for new plant varieties with the aim of offering a varied catalog of great landscape interest. This is why, as a result of our selection, we annually incorporate new varieties into production. The purpose of this article is to discuss four new varieties of Salvia, selected for their quality to reinforce a very wide color palette.

Salvia 'La Mancha', is a compact shrub of the Lamiaceae family, with evergreen leaves, it blooms in pale yellow during the months of May to October. It can reach 70 centimeters in height by 70 centimeters in width. It belongs to climatic zone number 8, and is resistant to cold down to -10ºC.

This Salvia should be planted in full sun, otherwise it will not show its full potential during flowering.

It grows well in soils with good drainage, not suitable for areas with waterlogging problems.

This species tolerates dryness, but prefers some occasional watering, especially during the months of May to October. During this time, in the Mediterranean climate is when we can have some prolonged period of drought, it is then when it will be convenient to give it some support watering. Waterings with a large amount of water, spaced over time, in this way we encourage the roots of the plant to seek water in deeper layers, where moisture lasts much longer than in the first centimeters of soil.

This species is not resistant to salinity and sea breeze. Salvia microphylla 'Cerro Potosi' is an evergreen Salvia that blooms in pink - magenta color. Compact shrub of superior size, as it can measure between 90 and 100 centimeters high and between 90 and 100 centimeters wide. Aromatic leaves larger than Salvia 'La Mancha'.

It blooms during the months of May to October, which can give us a lot of color during the summer, especially if we accompany it with some watering during this drier season. It blooms during the months of April to October.

It likes to be exposed to full sun, it is not resistant to salinity and sea breeze. Salvia x jamensis 'Nachtvlinder' is evergreen, it has paired, simple and lobed leaves, very aromatic. It is a shrub about 75 centimeters high by 70 centimeters wide. Flowers in color between purple and dark violet. It blooms very abundantly during the months of April to November.

Salvia very well known in the northern regions of Europe.

Its maintenance, like the other Salvia is very simple. Simply pinch it once the flowering loses ornamental value, in this way it will sprout and bloom again in a few weeks.

High cold resistance, as it withstands perfectly down to -10ºC, sunny exposure. Salvia x jamensis 'Peter Vidgeon' is a light pink flowering salvia, very aromatic. Evergreen, paired, simple and lobed leaves. It can reach 75 centimeters high by 75 centimeters wide. It belongs to climatic zone number 8, and resistant to cold down to -10ºC.

Flowering is also very long-lasting, during the months of May to October. The color of the flower gives a lot of freshness to the garden.

It likes soils with good drainage and is resistant to dryness, although it prefers some occasional watering, especially during the summer.
